You've probably heard that there are a lot of ways to send an email message or two over the internet these days. But did you know that it's also possible to log into sites with your email credentials? Or even just view all those emails you're getting every day without having to go digging through folders on your computer? We'll explain what each one does so you have a better idea as to why they exist.

I'm going to assume here that you already know about sending messages using SMS (text) messaging rather than the traditional method of typing your message out yourself, but let's start by looking at some other options. The first thing we need to look at is logging into websites using your existing email credentials. This lets you skip the login screen altogether -- instead of entering username/password details when trying to visit a site such as Facebook or Twitter, you can simply enter your email address. You won't be able to see any private content while logged in, however, unless you enable "Show My Email Address" under Settings on Android phones or iOS devices.

If you want to use the same set of email accounts across multiple platforms then you should consider enabling Show My Email Address on both your desktop browser and smartphone. Once you've done this, you will only need to remember one password to log into most popular web services. If you don't care about this feature, you might still benefit from knowing where to find your email account settings on a specific device. Here's where you'll find them.

Note: While we haven't tested these features ourselves, we recommend checking with the relevant manufacturer before relying too heavily on their support staff. For example, Sony says its Xperia Z2 supports email verification via text message, but Samsung doesn't mention whether or not it works in the Galaxy S6 or Note 5.

Where is my email account on my phone?

The easiest way to locate your email account on your phone is to head to Settings. On your home screen tap Apps & notifications followed by Accounts & Passwords. Scroll down until you reach the list of installed apps and select the app labelled "Email". It may take several taps in order to arrive at the correct page, depending on how many different types of email accounts you have installed.

Once you're at the Email app, you'll see all the email accounts currently available to you. Just scroll rightward to reveal your primary account and tap on it to switch between viewing your inboxes and composing new ones.

On older versions of Android, you can also change your default mail client by opening up the App Drawer, tapping More, selecting Default Messaging Client and choosing another program from the dropdown menu. In case you were wondering, the default app used to compose new messages was called E-mail.

This is one area where Apple gets points for consistency, though. All iPhones running iOS 8+ allow users to choose between iCloud Mail, Exchange ActiveSync, IMAP and POP3 email clients. To make sure you're using the latest version of whichever service you prefer, head to Settings > General " Software Update.

Now, let's talk about finding your email address on your iPhone. Depending on which operating system you're using, you'll either need to type your email address manually or search for it within Spotlight.

How to find my email address on my iPhone

Open Spotlight Search by swiping left from anywhere in the Home Screen or pressing Cmd + Spacebar. Type your email address into the box provided and hit Enter. Your contact card will appear onscreen, complete with any attachments attached. Tap View Details to read more about your contacts.

Another option is to hold down your finger on your contact icon and drag it downward to expand the info panel. From here, you'll see a small section titled Email Address, along with any additional data associated with your account.

Why can't I find Mail in iPhone settings?

Apple has made a big deal out of how easy it makes life for iPhone owners who rely on third-party email providers. And yet, despite being the company behind the world's most advanced mobile platform, Apple still hasn't managed to include its own email client. Instead, you must use the built-in Mail application, which means you'll always be limited by whatever restrictions come with using a paid app.

That said, you can actually force Apple's Mail app to load whenever you want. Open Settings and navigate to General " Accessibility " VoiceOver. Next, turn off Allow switching among apps containing similar functionality. Finally, swipe up from below the status bar and press Select to toggle Voice Control on. Now, whenever you launch Mail, you can tell Siri to perform actions including searching your mailbox, replying to an email, forwarding an email and deleting an email.

Where do I find my email settings for Gmail?

Gmail offers a few different methods of accessing your email account remotely. One of them is the ability to quickly scan your inbox by scrolling through the subject lines of unread emails. Another is to click on the three dots next to the title of any email thread and choose Go to conversation...

Some examples include Microsoft Outlook Express, Thunderbird, Opera MaxMail and Swift Mailer.

Where do I find my email account settings for Yahoo! Mail?

Yahoo Mail is the second largest free email service after Gmail. As mentioned earlier, it provides a number of useful tools that help you manage your inbox effectively. However, unlike Gmail, Yahoo Mail doesn't automatically display your email contacts' profiles alongside messages in your inbox. So, if you'd like to see your friends' pictures and biographies, you'll have to dig around inside your profile settings.

Head to Settings - Internet Services - Mobile Email. Locate your email address and click Edit Profile to adjust its appearance.

From now on, you'll no longer be presented with a blank space. Rather, you'll notice a sidebar displaying various social networking icons and links to related news stories. These updates are pulled from RSS feeds and other sources, so you won't necessarily see everything listed in real-time. Still, it's nice to have something besides plain white text staring back at you every morning.

In addition to adjusting your inbox layout, you can also tweak your privacy settings. Under Privacy Preferences, you can decide whether people can share your location with others, request your permission to post photos of you online, ask you for your permission to tag you in tweets and posts, and much more.

Windows Phone 7 includes a native email client, but it cannot be accessed directly from your Start screen. You'll need to hop over to Settings and choose Accounts. Then, click Send & Receive. If not, you should go ahead and set up automatic syncing as soon as possible. This lets your phone keep tabs on everything related to your online life without having to worry about manually connecting each app to your devices every single day.

Once you've got your apps connected, head over to Settings " Accounts & sync " Sync now -- click Manage Apps to view the list of apps you already synchronized. Scroll down until you reach Email, tap Edit next to the name of the app, then enter your email and password if necessary.

Alternatively, you can log in directly to whichever email provider you prefer by tapping Sign In at the bottom right corner of your screen. You may need to provide additional details here depending on whether you use your own username or email address and password.

Another option is to visit your email provider's website. For example, if you use Gmail, you can go to gmail.com/accounts to quickly login.

Finally, some websites offer their users the ability to add multiple email providers. These include Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Pinterest, YouTube, Dropbox, and many others. When signing up for such sites, simply choose one of the available options for your primary email address, then create new ones if needed. We recommend adding a separate email address specifically for notifications, though, since you'll probably want to keep track of all sorts of alerts.

The same goes for other types of accounts. For instance, if you frequently use the Netflix service, you may want to add your Netflix ID as well as the main email associated with your account. The only thing is...you won't actually be able to tell if anyone has contacted you via email unless you take action yourself. So, once again, consider creating a secondary email address exclusively for notification purposes.

Where do I find my email accounts in settings?

Now let's move onto your personal email accounts stored locally on your device. On both Android and iOS, there are two places where you can find your existing email accounts:

Settings " Accounts " Add account

On Android phones running Marshmallow 6.0 or higher, you can head to Settings " Accounts " Add Account. Tap the plus button near the top left corner of the page and select either Exchange ActiveSync (EAS) or IMAP. Then follow the prompts to connect your account.

You'll get prompted to confirm your identity before proceeding further. Once done, you'll arrive at a screen showing you the number of mailboxes attached to your chosen EAS/IMAP connection. Here you can manage the contents of each mailbox individually.

On iPhones running iOS 10 or later, you must first enable Touch ID or FaceID authentication before you can proceed. To do so, swipe across the upper portion of your lock screen and wait for the prompt asking if you'd like to authorize fingerprint scanning or facial recognition. After authorizing Touch ID or FaceID, follow the instructions above to continue.

When you're finished, you'll land on a screen displaying the number of mailboxes currently attached to your selected EAS or IMAP connection. From here you can manage the contents of each mailbox separately.

How do I get email settings for my phone?

As mentioned earlier, you can easily change the default setting for receiving emails on your phone by heading to Settings " Accounts " Default account. Pick the type of account you prefer for emails -- POP3, IMAP, or neither -- and then hit Set as default.

For an extra layer of security, you can also disable incoming emails altogether by selecting Never send me pop-up ads under Do Not Send Me Pop Up Ads.

While you're on the topic of security, remember that email attachments could contain viruses too. It's therefore best practice to scan files before opening them to ensure that none of them contain malware.

To help protect against phishing scams, you can also opt into two-factor verification. Two-step verification requires sending a text message containing a six-digit code along with the user's original password whenever you try logging in. Like on Android, you can locate your email credentials within the Settings menu on Apple devices. First, tap General " Passcode Lock. Next, scroll down to Find My Phone, followed by Enter Password if required. Finally, select Done. Now you can go and retrieve whatever information you need.

However, if you ever forget your passphrase or lose your phone, you'll need to reset your entire iTunes backup. To start off, launch iTunes on your computer. Click File " Library " Backup Files and Devices. Head to Backups " [Your Name] " Device backups and click Restore. Select a previous backup to restore it and then follow the steps accordingly.

Afterwards, you'll need to repeat the process again. Simply choose File " New Backup and pick the location you wish to save the file. Hit Create Backup and wait for the process to finish. Restoring your data will require following the exact same procedure, but replacing "[Your Name]" with your current username instead.

How do I get email settings for my phone?

If you're using an old version of Android, you can still find your email settings by going to Settings " About Phone " Contact info. There you can enter your email address and password, among other contact details.

On older versions of iOS, you can find your email contacts by swiping across the upper half of your Home Screen and tapping Contacts. Alternatively, you can press and hold your finger on the home indicator until your screen turns blue. Here, you can edit the names and numbers of people who are included in your list.

To switch between viewing your contacts' full names or last names alone, simply drag the slider located beneath the thumbnail image. On newer versions of iOS, you can also tap the three dots icon situated below the screen name field to display additional options including Favorites, Groups, People Nearby, and More Info.

Lastly, if you happen to live somewhere where spam filters aren't enabled, you can turn them on from Settings " Spam. Choose Turn on filtering of unknown sources, then restart your phone so the changes apply immediately.

How to block unwanted calls and texts on your smartphone

The easiest way to avoid getting spammed is to stop answering calls and texts from unknown numbers altogether. However, sometimes you really do need to answer a call or reply to a text, especially if it's from a friend or family member. And unfortunately, it's impossible to completely filter out everyone trying to contact you. Instead, we suggest taking the following precautions:

Set up caller ID blocking on your phone. With this feature, you can determine who is calling based solely on the telephone number displayed on your screen.

Use a virtual private network (VPN) to mask your IP address. This prevents third parties from knowing exactly where you are located. Plus, VPNs encrypt the traffic between your device and its destination server, making it much harder for hackers to intercept sensitive communications.

Install anti-spyware software. While it doesn't completely eliminate spyware infections, it does minimize the threat of being tracked and stalked by malicious entities.

Take advantage of your carrier's protection plans. Most carriers offer free antivirus solutions that work in tandem with the built-in OS. Also, mobile devices typically come equipped with the latest firmware updates designed to enhance overall performance.

Consider installing a privacy app. Some apps allow you to monitor keystrokes, audio recordings, photos, videos, GPS locations, and much more. Depending on the features offered, you could potentially avoid sharing certain kinds of data with advertisers and other interested parties.

Remember that you shouldn't expect to stay protected forever. If someone manages to gain illegal access to your device, you could end up exposing yourself to potential cybercrime charges. Still, our advice remains the same: Take care of your cybersecurity needs today rather than waiting until tomorrow.

Why can't I find settings in Gmail?

Gmail doesn't offer many options for changing its default behavior because it wants to keep the interface simple and easy to navigate. But as you may already know, the same goes for most web browsers these days. There's no reason to go digging endlessly through menus and submenus just to figure something out. Instead, you can simply type the name of whatever feature you need directly into the search bar and click Go. It'll bring up results instantly.

In case you don't know, typing anything into the omnibox (the area between the URL bar and the Search button) will usually perform a Google search. So, if you're looking for your Settings page, instead of going through the menu hierarchy, just enter "Settings" into the omnibox. Clicking Go will show you every result containing the word "settings." From there, select whichever option best fits your needs.

You probably already knew this, but just in case: To change your Gmail settings, head to My Accounts & Sign-ins in Chrome/Chromium and follow the prompts. On Firefox, hit Tools & Options then Privacy & Security. Finally, tap Email Settings under General Preferences.

There's only one place to go if you want to change your settings: Your profile. This is a special section within your Gmail account that gives you access to all kinds of additional tools, such as setting up labels and filters, customizing themes, tweaking your compose window, and much more.

Here's how to reach it: Log in to your Gmail account, hover over your picture next to the username label, and click Edit Profile. Underneath your avatar image, you'll notice tabs labeled Basic Info, Advanced Features, and More. Click the More tab and scroll until you land on the Settings section.

Click the gear icon on the far left side of the screen and choose Settings. Then, expand Mail, Contacts, Calendars and Apps, and finally toggle Show My Address. Now, whenever someone sends you an email, you'll be able to see your full contact info right beside your message preview pane.

What are Gmail POP and SMTP settings for Gmail?

POP stands for Post Office Protocol, while SMTP refers to Simple Mail Transfer Protocol. Both refer to protocols used by email clients to connect to external servers. While the names aren't particularly useful in everyday terms, they tell us a lot about how these two different types of connections work.

For example, POP works almost exclusively on Windows machines, whereas SMTP requires a Unix server running either SendMail or Qmail. That means the former protocol uses Microsoft Outlook Express or Thunderbird, while the latter relies upon sendmail or postfix.

Fortunately, both methods support the same basic features. They allow you to add multiple email accounts to your account, forward messages, read archives online, delete individual messages, and more. However, neither method allows you to customize your own email signature -- which means that once you leave Gmail, you'll need another service to maintain your personal branding.

SMTP supports sending, receiving, forwarding, reading, deleting, archiving, and printing of messages. Additionally, it enables you to create canned replies, use multiple identities, schedule tasks, and more. Lastly, it lets you configure how to receive incoming messages (e.g., pop3 vs imap).

Finally, SMTP differs from IMAP in that it provides less security than it does convenience, allowing anyone with access to your IP address to view and manipulate your entire mailbox.

On the other hand, POP doesn't require a connection to an outside server, meaning it offers better protection against snoopers and hackers. Furthermore, POP stores all messages locally, so you never have to wait for your server to reply before accessing them. Still, POP lacks advanced features including scheduling, archiving, and filtering.

How do I retrieve my email account?

As mentioned earlier, the way you retrieve your email depends entirely on the program you use. For instance, on Android, you can download third party apps like Evernote or Dropbox that provide integrated email functionality. Similarly, macOS includes Apple Mail, along with iCloud Drive, Files, Notes, Reminders, Calendar, Voice Memos, Safari, Photos, HomeKit, Siri, Maps, Newsstand, Podcasts, iTunes Store, Messages, FaceTime Audio Calls, Find My Friends, Find My iPhone, Screen Time, CarPlay, Handoff, Health Records, Wallet, and others.

So, regardless of platform, you should consider installing an app that makes it easier to stay connected to your various accounts. Otherwise, you could end up missing important notifications or forgetting important files.

Alternatively, you can keep these tips handy in case you ever forget what your email login credentials are again:

Go to your browser's Incognito mode ("New incognito Window") and log into Gmail.

Use the steps outlined above to locate your email settings inside Gmail.

Once you're there, copy and paste the link into your browser's address bar. When prompted, input your password and click Login.

Now, you can easily switch between your primary and secondary inboxes, plus you can archive, delete, sort, and mark emails as spam or junk. Plus, you can set up filters to catch certain keywords or phrases. All of these actions apply to both your primary and secondary inboxes.

Keep in mind that although you can use the desktop version of Gmail, switching to the mobile site for quicker access is strongly recommended. Not only does it load faster, it also displays fewer ads and banners.

Lastly, remember that you can always add a second email account to your Gmail account. Just visit Settings & Accounts & Sign-in and click Add Another Email Account. Follow the prompts to complete the process.

How do I verify my identity when signing in to an unknown website?

Some websites use forms that require you to confirm your identity. These sites include bank websites, shopping carts, and social media platforms. Sometimes, though, you must prove yourself before you can proceed.

It's actually pretty straightforward:

Log into your account and click the three dots located below the text box. Select Manage Third Party Cookies.

Scroll down and disable cookies from all providers except Google.

Replace the current session cookie with a new one generated by your browser.

Note: Some sites may require you to enable JavaScript in order to continue.

This will prevent your activity from being tracked. But for now, we suggest disabling tracking altogether.

That said, if you feel compelled to turn off tracking, you can do so globally or per domain. Head to chrome://net-internals/#hsts in your browser to learn how. Alternatively, you can use NoScript.

Doing so prevents malicious scripts and trackers from collecting information about you, which helps protect your privacy. Also note that turning off tracking temporarily limits your ability to shop or play games.
